The EEOC cares about small businesses, you guys.

In their quest to survive and eventually thrive, many small businesses do not prioritize EEO compliance. I’m not saying that small businesses purposefully set out to break the law. It’s just that, with a limited budget, HR’s squeaky wheel isn’t the first to get greased.

Perhaps recognizing this reality, yesterday, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission announced (here) that had released a new online resource center designed to help small business owners comply with the laws enforced by EEOC.

Here’s more from the EEOC press release:

The Small Business Resource Center (SBRC), located on EEOC’s public website at www.eeoc.gov, provides a user-friendly one-stop source for information on federal employment anti-discrimination laws. The Resource Center was designed for the busy small business owner who needs information both quickly and in a format that is easy to understand. In addition to providing general information on EEOC’s laws and ways in which EEOC can assist small businesses, there are also answers to frequently asked questions, guidance in making employment decisions and tips for small businesses on a variety of potential workplace discrimination issues.

The Small Business Center includes a number of sections, including a list of Frequently Asked Questions, this Fact Sheet, some compliance videos. However, my search for links to snarky blogs with frequent grammar errors and typos came up empty.

While I believe that it’s never to early for a young company to have a lawyer on retainer — cough — kudos to the EEOC for creating this resource.
