Teen tweets complaint about new job, gets fired on Twitter before starting said job.

I am a true Twitter OG. Why, I remember back in the day — it was 2009 — when Connor Riley, a/k/a ‘Cisco Fatty’ a/k/a @theconnor tweeted: “Cisco just offered me a job! Now I have to weigh the utility of a fatty paycheck against the daily commute to San Jose and hating the work.”

Unfortunately for Ms. Riley, one of Cisco’s channel partner advocates read the tweet and tweeted back, “Who is the hiring manager. I’m sure they would love to know that you will hate the work. We here at Cisco are versed in the web.”

Well, it seems we found ourselves a modern day Cisco Fatty…

A Texas teenager has been fired from her job at a pizza parlor before she even started after she sent out a tweet complaining about the gig and her new boss saw it.

In a hilarious Twitter exchange, a twitter user who goes by ‘Cella’ wrote: ‘Ew I start this f*** a** job tomorrow.’

The next morning, Robert Waple – the owner of Jet’s Pizza in Mansfield, Texas – tweeted at her: ‘And….no you don’t start that FA job today! I just fired you! Good luck with your no money, no job life!’

Mr. Waple’s response appears to have since been deleted, but not before it was retweeted 3,700 times and favorited another 4,126 times.

I realize that there isn’t a heckuva lot we can do to counsel pre-hires on the do’s and don’ts of social media. But, please use this post as a reminder to your existing workforce to think before they tweet. And, to my employers out there. If your folks do abuse Twitter this way, consider a more measured response. Rather than a hasty, shall we say, less than professional, reply on Twitter.
